Yo. I'm back. Longest month of my life, including that time I dyed my hair black.

Did anyone remember to water and feed Ace while I was gone? Take him for walks and make sure he got sun and all that?

[There's a pause and the fluttering of wings along with a mutter.] Damn this new book system is strange... [But he speaks back up again trying to sound more chipper.]

So what did I miss? Did the entire landscape change? Any new books about pirates at the library, eh?

[For those who know him well, Marco actually sounds pretty exhausted for a change, and lacking some of his usual ridiculousness.]

[To say Ace wasn't envious of Marco for still having the tattoo would be a lie. His eyes goes to the side as he thinks about his own lost tattoo, covered with scarring. See, this is why he told you when he came back that it wasn't just a symbol. He blinks a bit at the hug, realizing Marco must have got it, too. Hugging back, he nods.]

It is. [Eyes flash angrily. Angry at himself for bringing it up, angry at Akainu for burning it, and angry with the world for not getting it.]

Even if I did come back with no tattoo and thinking I was a marine, you and everyone else would know better. That's what matters.

It's not about blood at all. [Their father is their pirate captain >> And Luffy and Ace aren't biologically brothers either. So it's 100% about adoption. But good luck getting Marco to ever think blood is different.]

[He laughs.] All right, I promise if you ever come back as a marine, I'll kick your ass.

We should just beat up random marines too. [Please don't.]

[He chuckles a little.] There's only one marine here, though.

Ehhh... I guess battle dome then.

[ ffft, everyone is just siblings who wants to be so. ]

Kind of. He's been sent back home a lot. But even back home, were separated for a long time.

Yeah, I understand that feeling.. My older brother is in this place too, but he only recently returned after being home for about half a year. And I haven't seen him back home in even longer than that. It really sucks to be seperated from them.

Aye. I've got another 1600 brothers at home to look after, but I'd rather see them show up here than try to rush back home.

This place is actually the first I've been away from most of them in decades.

... 1600 of them? Big family you've got there.

[ even if it's not just by blood like they just discussed but it's more a semi-deadpan joke. ]

Aye. [Laughs.] My Pops' dream was to have a big family. I'd say he succeeded, eh?

That'd be fun. I'd like to beat the shit out of them, anyway.

Sounds like a good plan. How long has it been since we fought back to back anyway?

[And neither was she. Norma's not...exactly the hand-to-hand combat type, like more magic users/healers. She even makes a face at the very thought of sparring with anyone, let alone some burly pirate and friend of Ace's.]

Pass on the sparring thing, MarMar, I'm not the type. That was Senny, Red, and C's jobs. I'll get clobbered if I'm on my own in a fight against a big bad.

Like I said, it's off the table. I don't spar often. Probably I'd only be willing to against Ace. And even then, I'd hold back.

My powers aren't such that they're only used in fighting. Just like Freckles and his fireworks, eh?

[He leans back, a distant smile on his face.] Way, way too long.

He was dethroned, or something like that..?

Ah... no. He died. Did you ever talk to Blackbeard while he was here?
