[Newgate takes the sake, placing it next to him, not even opening the card. Marco wasn't trying to be a kiss ass, he wouldn't do that in a situation like this. All he does is listen in silence, occasionally glancing to his side for a scant few seconds to look at Marco. It honest to god hurt his heart to see him like this, far more than any disease ever could.

But it had to be done. Marco had to go through this, even if this wasn't his fault in the slightest. At the moment, Newgate doesn't even care, and when Marco finishes, his father reaches and arm over and pulls his son in a crushingly tight hug. There are no words. None are needed, the hug should be enough.]

[Marco just lets himself be buried in the hug, hiding his face in Whitebeard's chest and stops the tears threatening to well up on him. There was still a lump in his throat and he couldn't speak back yet. Words weren't enough anyway. More than anything he worried his Pops wouldn't be able to trust or look at him the same way again, and like Squardo, he wanted to prove he could be trusted the same as ever. And that, he wouldn't fuck up.]

[For a while, there's nothing but silence between the two of them. Newgate is still trying to figure out how to word things so Marco will understand his dad isn't upset at this Marco. He doesn't exactly think the Marco he fought with is the same as this one right in front of him. He rubbed Marco's back, just as if he were a scared child trying to find comfort.]

I'm not mad at you. And I'm not disappointed in you. It wasn't your fault, not a single bit of it.

Pops....

[Hugs tightly.] I wasn't... you know I wasn't... [Just leans against him still appreciating the closeness and everything about Whitebeard, his father, that made him safe again.]

I'm still sorry. I don't think I've ever been mad at you before and it was so weird. And awful. [A shiver.] Never again. Never.

If I'm hear one more apology coming out of your mouth, I'm going to kick your ass.

[He gives him a little squeeze to tighten the hug, a low hum at the back of his throat like he's thinking of something.] It's over and done, and you're back to you. That's all that matters.

[Laughs weakly and keeps leaning against Papa's chest.]

Okay, okay Pops. [Snuggles happily.]

I wish I knew what happened though, eh.

[Yeah, just stay where he can hold you.] They messed with your head. And I'm sure as hell not going to forgive them for that.

[Grunts quietly.]

My guess? Those damn scientists people keep talking about.

Mah, I'm sorry Pops, I know you don't like the mochi much, but it looks like they'll be staying... I helped scare off the puni they were being cornered by.

The world blows up around them and they haphazardly remember to tell us to move out or get our asses handed to us by the end of the world. Or need help or something. Messing with people's head for the monsters? Not really entertaining enough for them.

Aye, Pops, I promise. My sister Sora likes them, they keep her company, but she yelled at me for the punis too, eh? [Rubs the back of his neck and just winds up hugging Whitebeard hard again and mumbling yet another apology.]

Maybe it could've been the actual mochi and puni, then.

[He smiles, rubbing Marco's head, then giving him a quick kiss on the top of it.] Good. I'm glad you're agreeing with me on that.

It's possible. Monsters around here usually have something extra for defense and they were genuinely at war. I can't really blame them for wanting help. Either side.

[Happy tsun blushes at the head rubs and kisses.] I... I don't recall disagreeing with you ever before that. [So many mixed feelings there again.]
