Look, if I was to kidnap a large group of people to make them work as slaves, I wouldn't leave them wondering why they're there. And I'd watch them with more than just these communicator things. These things shock people if they don't use them every so often. Now what would be the point of that? If they wanted to just watch us, cameras everywhere would work better. With these we can talk to each other and plot. We're not even stuck to just this city, people just stay here because it's easiest and this is where people come in. If they wanted to use us, they'd make sure we couldn't just run amok all over the place. Meanwhile the scientists have abandoned the people here in the past and it's every man fending for himself. When you need a resource, you take care of it. You protect it. You make sure it won't get used up or stolen by someone else: whether it's money, slaves, nakama, or land.
Whatever they want, I don't think they feel they need us. So it strikes me as opportunism. They saw a chance for something and took it, but it's no big loss to them what we do because more will come along or not.
