It wasn't the thing about Japan but more so what it sounded like Marco was trying to convince him to do. The first thing to ring in his head was his lineage, what their world was about, the Grand Line, the One Piece and crowning the next Pirate King. Knowing he couldn't go back there and was stuck in this world was hitting way to close to home with his death too. He may have said he accepts this place but sometimes... it hurt to admit it.
