First order of business, the trolls don't have Halloween in their world. Thus I'm inviting any of you who would find it fun to come trick or treating. That said, I suggest everyone try to find treats for them unless you want to experience the full weight of troll tricks. Eridan, Karkat, Tavros, Sabo, Vriska, Gamzee, and anyone else under 18 who wants to go trick or treating; you need a costume. If you want ideas, ask me or ask around for suggestions.

Also these are the remaining commander drawings I promised Hong Kong a while ago.

True... [Distant look. Arguably though, his relationship with Ace was almost always like that. But then Ace did listen, and grow. All the time.] Some mistakes or failure to listen is inevitable though. Even for someone who usually does listen. And I'm sure I'm not great at listening to them either, eh?

[Grins.] Because I've spent the last few decades since my Pops found me trying to help others realize they don't have to be alone. If you don't mind my asking, what are you focused on? Not that that's a problem, it's a very good reason, eh.

Oh, I can agree that there's probably no one who listens all the time. And even if they did, they would be nothing more than a lapdog, so it's for the best that there's disagreement every now and then. It's just when they never listen that it gets bothersome, otherwise it can be dealt with, mostly.

Sounds like you're a true saviour. [ okay, a bit of deadpan again, but then she sobers up a little. ] ... Back home I have to find out the truth of an incident that happened twelve years ago. That's it.

Che. Hardly. Just trying to make up for my own past, eh.

Even so, just by the fact you're trying to make up for it means you're already a better person than the majority out there. Most of the time I wonder if some people are even capable of feeling guilty in the slightest to start with.

No, it's nothing that complicated. That incident is just an important part of my past, since.. that incident consisted of my entire family dying.

It's not guilt, it's empathy. Until my Pops came along and Thatch and my brothers showed me a better life I was nearly as closed off as Japan was. I don't think that was wrong, just the way it was. It took me awhile to learn that there was something better out there for me.

I see. [Glances down for a moment before back up with a birdie headtilt.] You plan to avenge them?

Empathy, huh.. I guess I sort of get it, when you put it that way.

[ That makes her think for a moment though, but.. in the end she shakes her head a little. ]

If there's a killer, they're most likely already dead by now. I don't want revenge, I just.. [ - want my family to come back to me - ] want to find out what exactly happened.

I see. Investigator then, not an avenger.

I guess you could almost call it a detective, if you want to go by all those mystery novels.

Is that what you call it?

It's what others back home might have called it. I personally don't really care either way. As long as I find the truth, who cares about the method or the way you call it, right?

Is the truth all you're hoping to find?

There isn't anything else really left to find. Reaching the truth is the only thing I can still accomplish in my life.

Eh... perhaps. But I'm sure your family would want you to live too, don't you think?

[ ... She pauses for a moment, looking perhaps a bit uncertain before she goes back to her usual look. ]

They're dead, right? If anything, I should be with them.

No. That's too selfish. Family wants the best for their family. They want them to live, even at the expense of themselves. Those of left behind, however we might wish to join them, it's selfish, because they'd want us to live, just like we'd want for them.

The price of being still living you could say.

If they would want 'what's best for me', they should want me to die. There's nothing 'good' about continuing life like this, to be honest. There's no longer anything waiting for me anymore.

You can't know that until you find it.

No, I know this much for sure. I practically already threw away my life back home.

And you think it's worth that?

What? Throwing away my life worth in exchange for the truth? ... Yeah, it is. That life already lost its value a long time ago, so I don't really care.

The only life to lose value is a traitor, and even then... that's why it has to be taken from then.

... I was supposed to die together with everyone all that time ago, I'm sure of that. There's no other explanation. But because of some weird mistake by fate, I survived even though I should have died, I got to stay home instead of facing the incident that killed everyone who went. That's why my life has pretty much been crappy all this time.. Because it wasn't meant to be.

That's why it has no value.

Surviving doesn't mean you're not meant to be. Fate... things like that... It's what you make of it. If you believe in fate, why not believe you survived because you were meant to? In order to right the wrong of why your family was destroyed? You can't bring them back, but you can stop it from happening to anyone else.

[ She does seem to consider his words for a moment, quietly. ]

I did get a chance to save my family, but I couldn't even accomplish that much. It's a little complicated, but.. I can't get them back for me, but I could get them back for another 'me' from a parallel world of sorts. But it seems.. in the end, even that much was impossible.
