[In a scene that might be familiar to some, Marco is back in the barn, with five baby chocobo. Not quite so baby now, he might be able to fit one of them in a bag on his back, but not all of them. He can't even fit them all under one wing, but that's all right, the others he's dealing with in different ways. It might not be immediately obvious, but the loss of Ace is hitting him hard. Normally he'd go into a rage to kill things, but he doesn't seem to feel it's worth it.]

Ace's name is up on the memorial wall. He might come back... I hope so.

[There's a much too long pause in which he looks a world away and scoops up a chocobo fitted with a Spade collar.]

Ah so how about some bird jokes, eh?

You've probably all heard this one: Why did the chicken cross the road?
To get to the other side.
Why didn't the turkey cross the road?
He didn't want to be a chicken.
Why did the ducks cross the road?
To prove they could do it better than the chicken.
Why did the chicken cross the road twice?
It was a double-crosser.
Why did the rooster cross the road?
To prove he wasn't a chicken.

A phoenix walks into a bar filled with a bunch of turkeys. He gives them a polite nod and then buys everyone a round of drinks. They crowd around their new friend and offer some peanuts. "Gobble gobble gobble?" they suggest. "No thanks," he politely declines, "I'm allergic." They offer him pretzels. "Gobble gobble gobble?" He takes a few of those and they continue on for hours. Eventually they run out, and just as he was about to leave, they look him up and down and ask, "Gobble gobble gobble?" He gives them a horrified look and explains, "No way! I'm not into that!"

Why did the marines arrest the turkey?
They brought it on suspicion of fowl play!

Yes. I just have to decide on my get away place. Wine chateau in the mountains or cave on a cliff. It's a really tough call. The scenery is great in both, but the chateau gets so noisy with people running around. Cave it is then.

[ awww yeah, Marco is the coolest dude around here. ]

And you won't get bored, sitting in a cave for so long with nothing but eggs to keep you company?

Ah, bad question. That is to say... No, I don't think so. I haven't much before. Although I did have a lot of books. And I snuck out to get more often. [Lying, telling the truth; who can say? Either way, it's all deadpan. Of course.]

Don't know, maybe if they would put some cable tv there I might consider it. [ yup, deadpan here too, deadpan buddies all around. even if it's slightly more amused deadpan today on this side. ]

Cable tv?? That's like the comm video with plays, right? Sorry toots, my world is still behind the times as far as entertainment goes. People have to go get their adventures and focus on survival.

Ah, yeah, pretty much. And it must be pretty strange to be from a world like that. Even though I personally don't really use all that technology, like all that new computer stuff or whatever, I can't imagine living in a world without it anymore.

I'm actually a little worried about living in a world with it. [Head tilt, this time, the general deadpan joking seems gone, he's back to his serious side of himself.] Japan is wizard with this kind of technological thing, but for me... if there's not a living component I'm pretty useless with it. [And whoops there's that deadpan again!] I guess living in a cave isn't too conducive to that after all, eh?

Huh, really? You think stuff like this is hard to operate?

[ She seems to think about it for a few moments, but she doesn't really think so, even if she doesn't use technological stuff too often.. ]

I don't know, you can get used to pretty much anything over time, right?

You think so? Cube said it's a little hard, but not impossible. Maybe I'm just over-thinking it, eh?

I'm just sure that if you'd give it some effort, you'd get used to it. All of humanity has to adjust to new technology when it comes out, after all, like those computers back in my time.

Eh? Really? So it's more like sailing or something? Just about everyone knows it, but it's just because they use it? And it only seems intimidating until you start?

Pretty much. Learning how to use them is just like any other skill or sport. You can do it as long as you just start and get used to it.

All right good! That doesn't sound too tricky then. Sort of like the comm. I won't ever make the stuff Japan does, but at least I can use it, eh?

Yeah, the important part is just that you know how to use it. If you don't know how to use basic technology, you'd get utterly lost and helpless in a modern world like mine.

All right... how do you do the basics?

Depends on what exact technology we're talking about.

Ah... computers? And video games.

Oh, those are actually pretty new, so I haven't worked much with them in practice either. I've already heard a lot about them though, like the fact you can press an icon on the screen and a whole window will pop up and all.

I guess that's not too hard, eh.

Even a buffoon could figure it out, pretty much.

All right, that's fine then. I'll just stop worrying about it.
