Hello New Feathers! My name is Marco. I hope you're all settling in all right! If you're still having problems getting lost in the middle of nowhere, give me a call and I'll be right over to guide you back to town.

For everyone else, I have a friend about my size who's in some desperate need of costumes. I'll take anything you've got. Nurse's uniforms, maid uniforms, marines, chicken costumes, bunny ears, literally anything.

Bonus points if it looks sexy on a guy.

Like I said, I found him a suit. But he barely wears shirts. I think the more ridiculous might be easier to con him into.

Maybe our worlds do things differently, but heroes in my world stand by to stop people trying to rescue their family. Or let their own family be killed in the name of justice.

Quite sure. I said they stood by, not that they did the killing themselves.

Hmm... Sounds like some other 'hero' I know. Did the heroes from your world even know all that stuff was happening in the first place?

Yes. When I say stood by, I mean they were right there. And also stopped the people trying to do the rescuing.

That's what being a hero is. Making selfless sacrifices against what you really want for what you think is "right" or whatever.

I'd rather not be surrounded by such.

Sheesh! The heroes from your world didn't think it was "right" to save people who were in danger? That doesn't make sense! How's it a selfless sacrifice if you just stand there and ignore the people you're supposed to save? The real sacrifice would be to rush in there, get hurt yourself, but rest easy knowin' that at least all those other guys made it out okay.

[Yes, he's picturing a burning building and people trapped inside, now.]

Yeah, well, that's what I was trying to do.

It was a war though, so the straight-forward options weren't really there.

Lemme tell you about real heroes. The good kind, not the losers from your world.

They're the kinda people who build happiness outta nothing. They do whatever they can to make stranded people feel at home. And they're the kinda people who would give their lives to make sure their loved ones don't get hurt. And... Real heroes know that if they make a mess of things, it's their responsibility to fix that mess. And in the end, they do what's right, instead of what they want.

[Yup, he just went from thinking about himself, to thinking about Ortensia, to thinking about Mickey, to thinking about himself again.]

You just said, they do what they think is right instead of what they want. I can do without that in my life.

But... What if, hypothetically, something they want belongs to someone else? Then they can't take it. They have to give it back to their rightful owner, otherwise it'd just be stealin'. Heroes don't steal.

Or what if they want to run away from their responsibilities, even though lots of people are counting on 'm? See, that's what I mean with not just doin' what you want. You've gotta make the decisions that help more people than just you.

Yeah I don't have a problem with stealing. [WORST person to talk to about heroes and justice.]

And yes, heroes do all that. Which is why I don't want to deal with them. The hero I'm thinking of didn't want to see his family get hurt, but he felt he had to anyway. I am more of a "fuck the rules" kind of person.

Asking my family to be allowed to live the way we do is selfish to a lot of people, but I don't care. I'm certainly not going to stop.

I can see where you're comin' from, but your family can live just as happily without you having to resort to stuff like stealing. It just takes a whole lot of effort, is all.

It's not stealing. Our existence is outlawed.

Pretty much. There's a lot more to it, and there are a bunch of laws I break not out of necessity just for fun, but my family was outlawed long before we started messing back with the government and marines.

Simply flying a pirate flag is illegal, and we've done a lot worse. I'm definitely no hero, I'll do things pretty selfishly if I feel like it, but I've got the pride of my crew. We don't need to be in the petty robbery game, and if we were, the government wouldn't pay us any attention anyway.
