[Laughs and messes Ace's hair up even more.] Seriously? I'm glad. [And just for that, Marco switches his tail out and swishes it back and forth, a clear sign he's just as happy as Ace.]

Heheh, this ought to be good.

Yeah, seriously. [He laughs along with Marco, especially when his tail shows up.] And back to the turkey.

Definitely. We have to make sure pirate versus ninja dodgeball is included though. To prove we can totally beat them.

[Huff.] Oi oi. Turkeys wish their tails were as great as mine.

Oh come on, like there's any doubt we can.

[He laughs again.] Yep, no bird can compete with your tail.

You know that, I know that, I'm sure even they know it, but they pretend not to, so we have to prove it.

Damn straight. [Sways his tail about happily. If that was meant to be mocking, it seems lost on Marco.]

[Well, it was a little of both. He leans against Marco's back.] Hey, can we go flying?

[HUG.] Always. Got a place in mind, or do you want to get out? [Gestures a thumb to the door.]

[He gives a firm nod.] The ocean.

Mn... did I ever tell you about Makino and Dadan? [Follows!]

Mm-hm. A bit. Makino taught you manners, Dadan had you doing hunting. [Switches into phoenix and crouches down so Ace can climb on.]

Yeah. They were both like moms to me. A more crazy sense in Dadan's case, though.

[And he climbs on.] Makino would take us shopping for clothes, come and hang out with us, all that stuff. Dadan... gave us a place to call home. Even if it was ideal, it was nice having people to come home to. People to nag at you for taking forever to get dinner, coming home after getting into a lot of trouble... they were both great.

Doesn't sound like such a bad childhood after all then, eh? [Spreads his wings and gets a good short running start before taking off, it's a lot easier in summer now that it's warming up to that. With all the hot air rising, the currents make it a lot easier to pick up.]

And then that shitty Gramps would come and beat us up everyday. [Yup, not horrible at all. He holds onto Marco as he takes off, exhilarated by the sudden wind.]

I take it back. [Shivers despite the heat. Garp. No one should have to deal with that crazy bastard. Except other marines, because fuck them, that's why.]

Yeah, I thought so. [He grins despite the memories.] But I had Sabo and Luffy. We had some good times. Like when Luffy got swallowed by that alligator. Or... when we almost killed him. Fuck, we were kinda horrible to him at first.

Eh, what are big brothers for, right? Most people would consider half of the things I do to you abuse.

[... Yeah no Ace took it WAY further than Marco ever would. Which is saying something if you think about it.]

--how the hell would they? You've never exactly tied me to a tree and threatened to kill me.

[Takes off his invisible "Worst big brother" award and pins it to Ace's hat.]

... y-yeah. [He lets out a nervous cough.]

See, he followed me all the way to the trash heap, where Sabo and I kept our secret stash for getting a ship and setting sail. But Luffy heard us, and we thought he'd squeal about it. So... we were going to kill him, but neither of us had the guts to. But then some pirates came looking for us since I stole from them earlier. We all hi, but Luffy ran out to them. He called out to me for help, and then Porchemy, a fishman pirate, asked where the treasure was, and... well, you know what a horrible liar Luffy is. So they took him, and Sabo and I spent the day moving our stash. Around sunset, Sabo came and told me Luffy still hadn't talked. He... he was beaten all day long. [Yep, still guilty about that.]

We busted him out and ran away after kicking their asses. I yelled at him and asked why he didn't talk. And Luffy said because then I wouldn't be his friend. I said he'd at least still be alive, but Luffy said he'd be lonely, and... nothing's worse than being alone. I-I asked if he wanted me alive... and he said yes.

[Kay, just gonna bury his face in your feathers now.]

[Snuggles Ace back in return.]

You're a really good big brother to him, Ace. [He almost envies the two of you getting to grow up together.]
