4th Wall Break Time!

[Wow, this is a lot of people. Marco gives up fighting his way through the crowd and just switches to hovering. Don't mind the half phoenix, half man above you, okay? He's relatively tame...ish. After flitting about for a little though, he gets tired of trying to spot everyone through the crowd.]

[He gives a sharp piercing whistle and yells out loudly:]

MARCO!

[One might wonder why he's calling his own name, but he's trying to see who will call back Polo. For science! Or you know, so he knows who will be interesting to go fly down to.]

[And later on, he'll be playing hopscotch, and that night he'll be hanging out on the roof of CH3 drinking and saying a toast to his father's memorial. Anyone care to join him?]

[Laughs and flies down looking for the source.] Marco!

[Hm... this kid is kind of familiar. Something about fire?]

[Okay, it seems he did it right. Yoh stands up on the bench before he yells again.]

Polo!!

[Waving his arms a bit.]

[Laughs and lands in front of him.]

Tag. You're it now.

[Argh, he has to remember this kid's name. You. Yo? Damn it. It doesn't help that he barely paid attention to names as a kid and that he was way more into the burning building. Oops.]

I'm Marco. I think we've met before, eh?

Oh, so now it's a game of tag? But I don't think I'm going to be able to catch you if you go flying.

[Yoh laughs happily. Now that the man is closer he does seem familiar, though the Marco he met was clearly a little kid.]

I'm Yoh. Uhm, kids sure grow up fast those days, I'm pretty sure you were about this small when we met last... August, was it?

[He looks at where Amidamaru is floating, though for those who can't see the spirit it looks more as if he is checking the SOS Brigade headquarters for a second. Though it's still not as it used to be back home, by now Yoh can pretty much even hear Amidamaru's voice at times, just like now, confirming that it was August.]

Yes, August, when I set my house on fire by accident. Hahaha.

[Nods!]

Aye, that's right. Malnosso kidnapped and shifted me. I think I have to apologize for my younger self, though I don't remember it too clearly. Well, I remember the fire. It's a phoenix thing. [Rubs the back of his neck and offers a handshake.] Nice to meet you as an adult now.

And aye, I think that's how Marco Polo works, right? I'm not sure since I can't swim, but I'm pretty sure there's a tag element to it. [Mischievous grin.]

There's no need to apologize, your younger self did nothing wrong. And you even helped me to put it out after a bit of watching it.

[He laughs at that, honestly. He didn't mind the kid preferring to watch the fire than to put it out at first, to each their own and if he likes to watch fires that's good.

Yoh shakes Marco's hand.]

I wouldn't now how it works, to be honest Marco Polo wasn't a game very popular among my friends when I was younger so I never played it. I know about it mostly from hearing others talk about it.

I didn't even know you need to swim for it.

[It wasn't popular among his friends because they were all spirits and either too old to play Marco Polo or just not human ghosts.]

[Grins back at that.] My division mates are all full grown men, you just wouldn't know it from the way they act, eh? Still, it seemed like the right thing to do in a giant crowd of people like this. Pretty wild, eh? I wonder if this is anything like what happened last year.

Oh? It has happened before? I can't remember anything like this happening before.

[Maybe he just wasn't here yet, or just doesn't remember. He doesn't sound very worried.]

I just hope we are given enough houses for everybody, or we are going to have some troubles.

[Spreads his hands with a shrug.] Beats me. I missed the shift last January because I was kidnapped.

Mah, I hope so too. No need to go through the same thing we did with the Kin'Corans, eh?

[If Yoh's not concerned, Marco won't be either.]

[Yoh nods and... Actually looks distracted for a moment, but that's just because Amidamaru is making him notice something he hadn't noticed before.]

Uhm, maybe it will be different than with them after all. There are many less wings around than when the Kin'Corans were around.

So anyone with wings isn't staying I guess? [Small frown.]

Should have known it was too good to last.

Well, the wings are important to us, aren't they? Without them we die. Instantly if I have heard it right.

But those people seem to be fine to me.

[It's a bit confusing. Why are they fine to begin with?]

[Nods.]

Aye.... maybe we should grab one and see if they have that neck tattoo too. I forget though, are both the wings and tattoo from the Malnosso, or are the wings from the world?

Eeeeeeeeeh...

[Yoh ponders about that, again apparently looking at the SOS Brigade building. Marco is going to end thinking Yoh's really interested in that place.]

I think the tattoo is from the Malnosso, for sure. It's like a barcode from my world, those are used to keep track of things.

Che. Irritating. They would try to keep track of us.

And the fake wings? Does anyone know?

Ah, maybe they don't work that way in this case?

[Yoh trying to be hopeful.

... And he's looking at the building again.]

Uh... I think I've seen around a... Child that has been born here, or something. And it has wings, unless the Malnosso kidnapped the baby as it was born and put them I guess they are natural in this world?

[Still looking at the building before he looks back at Marco, okay, that seemed like everything Amidamaru could help him with information wise.]

[Snaps his fingers.]

Right. Sophie's got the big wings that will be able to fly someday.

This really is a strange world, eh.

I think any world besides our respective ones will be strange for us.

[Yoh laughs at that. This one is just stranger... Or maybe worse because of the enclosure thing.]

[Grins.] True.

Everyone who hears stories about my home world usually calls it the strangest of all, so I guess it's just the familiarity thing, eh?

Really? Now I'm curious about your home world, Marco-san. You don't look as if you would come to a strange world to me.

You think so? Admittedly the things I take most for granted are the one others seem to think are the strangest part of it all though, eh?

What was your world like?

Uhm... Pretty much like how this one seems to be I guess. But without wings and without enclosures.

Ah, I guess there's much less nature back there too, there are many big cities that are basically nothing but buildings like the ones we have here with apartments. Though there are small villages too. The air isn't as clean either, nor the water in rivers as clear unless you travel far and reach very hidden places.

[A pause, he says it all with a calm smile, almost as if he's enjoying remembering it all. He doesn't.]

There are many more machines than here, and in the cities there's often like a layer of grey color all over the place due the smoke from those machines. There are big places with lots of nature, though! Most of them are protected nowadays so they aren't destroyed to create new cities. And we have a very big ocean, eh... My world has the nickname of Blue Planet for a reason after all. Most of it is water, but there are huge amounts of land too.

Whoa... that sounds... kind of terrible though, eh? Like what would happen if people just rebuilt cities on destroyed islands. Or if Vegapunk just went nuts and there were more Punk Hazard incidents everywhere.

["Kind of terrible" wasn't what he expected to hear. It's enough surprising to actually shock Yoh and leave him staring at Marco for a second as the other speaks. The last part makes no sense for Yoh but the part about rebuilding cities on destroyed islands it's just so much like his world, yet Marco says it as if it's a bad thing.

He composes himself and goes back to the silly carefree smile of always, but for a minute he was completely with his guard down mentally speaking.]

Well, most the people of my world like it that way, though. Maybe I haven't done a good job describing it? If it sounds as something terrible, I mean, it can't be that terrible if the majority of the world likes it that way, can it?
