[A: Action has a ridiculously cheerful Marco wandering Luceti, actually walking, not flying. This is because he's walking his Pops' dog. A big white dog with a mustache on its face. The same crescent moon mustache that can be seen on Marco's tattoo. Well they say pets take after their owners...]

[Though I'm pretty sure that's not how it's meant.]

Fetch, Stefan!

[The dog barks and goes bounding after the white frisbee, only to stop as it hits the ground. What you expected him to catch it? Or actually fetch it? No. He gives Marco a quizzical stare instead, like what the hell is he supposed to do with it? Marco deadpans him right back.]

What, you were expecting this? [He holds up a white boomerang instead. And Stefan barks. With a small sigh Marco tosses it, fetches the fallen frisbee himself, and the dog goes racing after the boomerang. Including when it comes back to Marco, who just holds up a hand and catches it.] I don't know if you're just that lazy or he gave you bad habits, eh? [But Marco gives the dog a treat and an affectionate face rub anyway. Seems his Pops wasn't the only one giving him bad habits. In any case, feel free to spot him anywhere outside and stop and say hello or join him, both Marco and Stefan are quite friendly.]

[B. Voice: After fetching food for dinner (fish and mostly vegetarian things, sorry Robin, he's been cooking with Leanne in mind) and stopping to actually return books to the library instead of just stealing them indefinitely like the pirate he is, Marco lazily grabs a spot in the garden near the Straw Hat house.]

Hello Luceti.

I'm Captain Marco, of the Whitebeards, though there's really only me left of us here. I suppose that goes for a lot of the pirates left here, eh? In any case, if you're a lost new feather, give me a call, and I can come flying out there. And for everyone, I pose to you a question.

All worlds seem to have their own ways of preserving history, and some of burying it. In my own world, I think we go for the latter more often than not. Perhaps ironically, one of the strangest things about being a pirate is that we also uncover and preserve a lot of history. Accidentally, or because of treasure and legends. What one pirate might find to be treasure, the rest of the world might see as useless junk. My father was big on preserving history through stories. When you pass on legends, you keep them real in a way nothing solid can. So my question quite simply, is what do you or your worlds do to preserve history and stories? And what do you do if it's destroyed, eh?

[He gets a barked "Ikki" in response, which should be enough explanation. The animal guides Marco to the outside of the village, into the woods, stopping every now and then to make sure he's being followed until he finally stops. And then he starts to bark to a random tree, which doesn't take it well.]

Get lost.

[Okay, no, that's Ikki's voice, though it may seem to come from the tree. He's nowhere insight actually, there's just forest all around, a big orangeish bird curling on a branch up the tree Hyoga is barking at, stones and grass on the ground... Nothing particular.]

[Marco has no idea what the bark means, since he can really only follow the dog's body language, but he does get the impression that he's probably being led to Ikki. That and Marco has haki. Score two for the phoenix.]

Yo. Bro, you all right up there?

[And herein we meet one of Marco's more bizarre flaws. Sometimes he doesn't react when people are drastically different. This time included.]

Perfectly fine. Don't let the stupid wolf bother you, go back to whatever you were doing.

[It's not as curt and brief as "get lost" but the meaning is still there, it's just voiced more nicely because it's Marco. However, it is painfully clear even for the most oblivious person in the world that Ikki's not fine and not just because he's a phoenix bird now -literally-. There's anger in his voice, tons of it and laced with an amount of pain that normally Ikki keeps hidden.]

[Man if this is how his brothers see him, well that explains everything to him now. Ikki's all cute and awww he just wants to give him a hug! He'll resist though. Instead, he carefully loops Stefan's leash around a branch, switching to hybrid, and hops up to the tree where he continues to act like nothing's different.]

Nice weather for sitting in trees today, eh?

[Ikki moves at that, uncurling himself and giving Marco a glare before he moves to another branch. He told you to leave, bro, why aren't you listening to him.]

Fucking perfect for it. I would say it's a bit too hot but that's probably just me.

Really? I like hotter days, I suppose. It's the cold wet ones that make me sleepy.

Pity it's not cold and wet then.

[Still in his own branch. Still not looking at Marco and instead glaring at the horizon.

From the ground level a bark comes, courtesy of Hyoga who is sitting besides Stefan and looking up. Ikki just snaps and yells back, with the tone of someone who is ready to murder someone if given the chance.]

Shut up! You already dragged someone here, what else do you want?!

[A small sigh.] Come home with me, eh? [Leans his back against the trunk.] Or do you intend to stay out here indefinitely?

Why not. You did it as well, stay away from there for a while.

[It's not as if he has nothing left in the village. There's Marco -even if he's by his side at the moment- and Selphie, and so far Smoker's things still haven't vanished so he will come to be around. Some day.

But she's not there. At last, just as he had been expecting since that Valentine's experiment, the dream is over. She's back to her world, to her friends, to never meet him even if by some miracle their worlds are the same one. Because even if he were to remember her upon returning he wouldn't look for her, he has no time for it, he has nothing he could give her. He knows it and accepts it, he has accepted it from the start, that one day he would lose her like everything else, he was always ready for it.

It wasn't supposed to hurt.]

And it didn't make me feel better, did it?

You have people here who love you, and you should be with them.

Being there won't make me feel better. If it's between feeling bad here or there I choose to stay here.

Being here supposedly wouldn't have bothered you guys, but that stupid wolf had to go and drag you here.

[The bird's flames fire up as he says that, his anger growing even more despite how impossible that seemed to be. Ikki turns to glare at the barking Hyoga, it's not a bothered glare but one full of anger and hate even if he knows the animal doesn't deserve it, even if he knows that when he directed that glare to Shun and the others that didn't make them stop trying to reach him.]

Dragging someone to me when I told you to get lost... Is it something you were taught to do by the Malnosso before they handed you to me?

[Hyoga whimpers just at the tone and the animal lays down and covers his ears with his paws, as if hopping that it will block away Ikki's voice. He doesn't like that tone of voice, he has never heard Ikki use it, specially towards him. Tempered with so much anger and hate, almost as if he was wishing the animal would die right there.]

Be nice. [Marco just growls right back at Ikki, as though ordering a dog to quiet down. His casual flippant tone is gone now, the words go from soothing like puffs of cotton swaps, to cutting edge, fierce and direct.]

If you truly think I wouldn't be bothered by my only brother left in this place going missing for an indefinite period for an unspecified reason, you don't know me very well, eh?

What is all this about? [Because he's definitely sure it's not the bird thing. Being a bird is awesome, okay okay.]

I'm not missing. I've the stupid journal with me, and you could track me down even asleep.

[He pauses, still glaring at Hyoga before he answers Marco's question.]

Kotomi is gone.

[He turns to glare at the other man.]

Before you say anything, I have no regrets or thoughts of "I should have done this or that".

[And it's true. He lived his time with her the way he wanted, calmly and peacefully. Just being with her as she read was enough for him, more than what he could have ever wanted. And he knew it was going to end sooner or later, he was sure that she would be gone before him... And it was better that way, he dreads to even imagine what it would have been for her if he had been the one to vanish.]

I wouldn't expect you to have regrets. [Softer tone and face again. The threat of violence is temporarily gone, coiled back inside him where it came from.]

But going off alone as a hermit won't fix it. Aren't you still planning to track her down in her own world and time?

[No. That's the immediate answer his mind supplies him with, but he doesn't say it out loud. There are many reasons as to why he shouldn't even try to do that, but he can't say any of them, not to Marco. Not when he told the man to do that while saying he would do it.]

For that I would need to get out of here first. And I'm not a hermit, I told you I've the journal.

Then you wouldn't have a problem coming back and having dinner with me and the girls, eh.

[Silence.]

What the fuck am I going to eat.

[Serious question because he's a bird and... He glares at Marco, surely he has bird food, doesn't he?]

I'm not going to eat bird food.

It's called salad and sunflower seeds.

What were you planning to eat out here? Bugs?

Nothing.

[He needs to lose a few pounds and he read in a magazine that not eating for a few days did wonders to one's figure.]

This can't last for long and when I was a kid I spent a lot of time without any food.

[Or eating from trash... Okay, his problem isn't the salad and sunflower seeds, it's the worry of being treated like a bird. Marco may be used to it, but he isn't, and he doesn't like it.]

You sure your girls won't mind?

One hundred percent sure. Robin has a weakness I need to exploit more, and Leanne needs more people in her life to help her adjust slowly, eh.

[He doesn't want to get in the middle of Marco's family times. He stands and move to where the other is, definitively looking exactly like Marco does in his phoenix form, except that he doesn't wear Whitebeard's crew tattoo on his chest. Ikki wears it on a wing.]

[Picks Ikki up into his arms (fight him) and hops down, gently snuggling his phoenix bro. Phoenix bro!] Suit yourself, eh.

Now tell me about this tattoo. [Tickles under Ikki's chin.]

[Ikki's not amused and shifts in Marco's arms trying to escape. He's not a teddy bear for you to snuggle, bro.]

I don't know anything about any crew tattoo.

[Lies, all lies. And if Marco has a good memory he will remember that the last times he had seen Ikki he had been wearing a bandage over his shoulder.]

Oh, so you joined the crew, did you? [SUPER HUG! ALL HIS PRIDE AND LOVE.] I have to admit, I like your guts in doing it without my help.

[DSKJDHASKD FIGHTING THAT HUG, LET GO, LET GO, LET GO- oh, okay, fine he gives up and just takes it. Don't think he likes it or anything.]
