Kaitou KID is a strictly non-violence criminal. As a response to that, the KID task force are prohibited from carrying or using firearms on the thief as well.

Yet still, somehow, KID manages to get shot at an awful lot...

So is that the point? To find out?

Do you think that's the only reason that KID might want to drag a spotlight into the shadows with his performances?

Depends on if his previous legacy was killed from such a means, in which case I'd certainly think so.

[Expert on revenge.]

KID was never killed during a heist... don't you think that's something that people would have noticed?

Was the previous one murdered though?

Probably.

There's no other explicable reason for him to stop stealing for eight years only to start up again for no discernible reason.

Plus, his M.O. was really shaky for that first year or so after he came back-- like he wasn't quite sure what he was doing. Now he pretty much only steals gems.

And big ones.

[Of course Kaito can't just make things simple and come right out and explain his motives, he's still sort of pretending that it's not him (in of that, Marco and he both know it's him, but neither is actually saying the word). And it gets tricky reasoning out his motives because, well. He's sort of got several.]

So does it have to do with his father or predecessor maybe?

[Because Marco will just always latch onto it. If he isn't doing something just for his own lulz, it's always about Whitebeard in his head.]

Sounds like quite the interesting person, this thief.

It's really a shame he wouldn't be interested in joining a pirate crew, I know one that would love to have him -- noncombatant or not.
