[Video] In which phoenixes pirates and countries alike go exploring

Did you know there's a bird of prey called a secretary bird for how ridiculous it looks? It's actually extremely dangerous though. Its legs are so powerful that rather than divebombing enemy like a falcon or eagle or strange bird pinky -- [Wait, what was that last one? Yeah screw your normal birds, One Piece has weird things as you might know from the rapahn.] -- Instead a secretary bird uses its wings for balance and kicks snakes to death. For fun since snakes are shitty prey. I always thought that was a pretty cool fighting style.

Speaking of birds of prey, can anyone tell me more about birds in their world? Or mythological ones? Phoenixes, dragons, rocs, thunderbirds, anything like that, eh?

We're about 2 days out of Discedo now, and I've decided to completely map out the lake for Kiku's map program, eh. There are plenty of explorers in my world, technically the first pirate king started out that way even. But I'm wondering about everyone else's explorers. Is the world you come from all explored? Who first ventured to those far unknown reaches? Come on, I'm sure at least some of you have that adventurer's blood in your veins, eh?

Oh, and everyone in Spero, don't forget Ace is captain!

I found out Japan's a great kisser when you scare him half to death -- OH you mean like scientists just camping out or a randomly inhabited city. Nah. Just rain and monsters. We aren't that far yet though. [Oh ho ho he thinks he's so funny.]

And yes, it was necessary. Though no one seems to care except Sakura.

You... what? {was this because he tried to surprise you?}

[Watches all of this with an unreadable expression.]

Oh, and go meet France. As far as Captaining and allies go, he'd be good not to make an enemy of. I'm sure you'd get along with him. He also knows his way around a kitchen. Kind of reminds me of Thatch and Sanji.

Hey, how could I forget? Besides I already asked him if it was alright. {Grin, grin.} He didn't seem to care if I flirted with her.

France? Hm. I'll keep that in mind. {Though he's not so sure about meeting someone like Thatch or Sanji, it might get a little sad cause he'll be thinking about them.}

{He wasn't sure why but all of this was rubbing him the wrong way and the last thing he wanted was to make this into a big deal. It wasn't the thing about Japan but more so what it sounded like Marco was trying to convince him to do. The first thing to ring in his head was his lineage, what their world was about, the Grand Line, the One Piece and crowning the next Pirate King. Knowing he couldn't go back there and was stuck in this world was hitting way to close to home with his death too. He may have said he accepts this place but sometimes... it hurt to admit it. He wanted to go home. He'd rather live there and see his brother succeed. That and he didn't really appreciate being compared to Denmark.}

My world... tch, right. {And with that the feed goes dead.}

[Flicker of rage, but only at himself and Marco's just gonna go kick over a tree now.]

Marco--?! [Marco kicking over a tree would both scare and worry the crap out of Japan. So he moves like he's going to grab his arm or something, but hesitates and lets him go.

And will just stare sadly I guess oh what is this...]

[Just paces around in circles for a bit seething blue rage and blue flames off of his arms.]

Damn it, damn it, DAMN IT! [Growls and runs a hand through his hair.] Too soon. Should have waited, didn't need to push him so hard. FUCK! [Kicks another tree, but with far more restraint, just stopping short and gripping talons around it instead.]

[He's not sure what to do. He wants to try and calm Marco down, but is doing that stepping over a line or something? This sort of issue was something between Ace and Marco that he was sure he didn't completely understand.

He lowers that arm that had reached for Marco awkwardly and stares. Hesitating... or waiting.]

[Continues pacing around in circles around some trees for a bit and then finally just slumps down against it with his back to it.]

Bushido.

[He walks over to Marco, crouching in front of him.]

Yes? [What he really wants to do is ask if Marco's okay, or what he could do, or what happened or something that seemed more helpful, but... When he does that sort of thing he usually messes up right? At least with Seifer...]

[Ruffles his head.]

Before I got here, was Luffy always here with Ace?

[Blinking.]

Always here...? Ah, well... Luffy-kun has disappeared and returned to this place many times. I would not know the correct count, but it is upsetting to Ace-kun each time. I could list the times I attempted to comfort him from such a thing...

It's been over a month. Do you know all through Marineford I put saving Ace second? I had to... I knew he'd never forgive himself, us, anything if he lost Luffy during it. Pops ordered me to protect Luffy but I was going to anyway. [Getting too emotional for Marco so he slides down lower.]

Words can't reach Ace. I couldn't... he said he wanted to be captain. In that impetuous way, eh? But he's... even in person I can't reach him. When I'm there I can't make him get involved, I thought maybe if I left and he had to look after them he'd pull himself out and now I really can't talk to him at all. It's like the gap is growing. I should be able to fly it, but if he turns his back, then I'll always be screaming for him to look this way.

[Japan is quiet for a while. He knows he's missing a lot, he can't possibly understand it all, but he still would like to try. And he thinks he can to a point, at least. Still crouching in front of Marco.]

Ace-kun is quite strong, isn't he? It seems that he does his best to smile no matter what. [He watches Marco, trying to see if he's alright. Sliding down lower like that just reminds him of himself, trying to hide, that sort of thing... Simple things make him watch more carefully.]

No matter what, he would like to see his nakama happy.

[He leans forward and sort of pulls Marco into a hug. Last time he tried a comfort hug it didn't work BUT HE IS BEING BRAVE.]

Marco and Ace-kun are both trying to see each other happy. Isn't that it? Ace-kun is a strong person. He will find a way... Ah, at least, that is what I believe. Any gap can be crossed. Ace-kun should not have to face you as he finds his way. I can understand wanting him to, however...

Things will be fine.

[Blinks and tugs Japan up higher into a tougher proper hug.]

Aye. Thanks. [Leans a cheek on Japan's head to think it over.] I just have to let him face it himself, eh? [Plays with the dark hair, picking it up and then letting the strands softly fall from his hand. A couple dozen times while looking out into the distance a little hollowly.] I wonder if I can truly do anything for him now though. Perhaps the days before Thatch's death was the last time other than looking after his brother....

Do not speak like that.

[HYPOCRITE but he keeps hugging...]

Marco helps Ace-kun each day. How do you suppose he would feel if Marco went home? It is truly a help that he is here to share this experience! Please do not doubt yourself.

Hah... Okay sorry. [Small grin.]

When I got here I thought he'd really grown up a lot. And he has... but I guess some things never change, eh? [Sighs.] With Pops... going through Pops wasn't really what he wanted. He just thought it was the path to get there. Here... I can't choose his direction. I don't know Bushido. [Plays with Japan's hair more. This helps.]

[Well it feels nice so Japan doesn't mind... Even though it's sort of giving him shivers uwaaah.

He curls a hand against Marco's back. The path...]

I believe that in order for Ace-kun to be Ace-kun, only Ace-kun can choose his path. Perhaps Marco feels he has no place in it at all, because of this... But I believe it is important for Marco to stand and wait to catch him if he falls, or praise him if he succeeds.

[Sort of noticing his similarities to Ace here. Usually Marco's the one who notices and Japan doesn't understand, but... He thinks he does now.]

[Nods.] That's my goal. Doesn't matter where either of you go, I'll fly along and be your phoenix guardian, eh? Best job in the world.

I also told Sakura I can create miracles, but I must be losing my touch, I'm not sure she believed me.
