Hey, I'm not dodging. [ That's your job, bro!! ] Anyway, my pirates. Okay, well, I guess Jēung Bóu Jái's a good story. His father was one of the Tanka, who're called "boat people" sometimes. They mostly make their living by fishing and live in boats off-shore by some of my islands. In China, too, but this is my story, so we're in Hong Kong now.

[ He pauses a second. ] When Jēung was 15, he was kidnapped by pirates. Jihng Yāt was their captain and he ran his outfit with his wife, Jihng Sih. She's a whole other story, because once Jihng Yāt died, she took over for him. At one point she had 1800 ships and 80,000 pirates following her. She even went after England and Portugal, not to mention the Qing.

She and her husband adopted Jēung, although later on when her husband died, Jihng Sih married Jēung. [ Hey, don't ask him. ] She ended up living way longer than he did, but they both eventually capitulated to the government and he got a job as a colonel in Penghu. That's like, off the coast of Taiwan. She did the same thing, kept all her loot, and opened a gambling house.

"And then they lived happily ever after."

1800 ships?! Seriously?? And people thought my Pops had a giant crew...

So she married her own son? [He's heard weirder. Maybe. But yes, he approves of this awesome story.]

Yeah, that's right, Cheung Po Tsai. [ He looks to Marco again. ] Some smaller groups kinda banded together until they had an organization that big.

[ He shrugs a little. ] I'm kinda infamous for pirates. [ Kinda mostly pretty much... in bad ways, yeah. But shh. ]

Marco, it was more like England doing the fighting. Except I already belonged to him, so it was kinda hard to tell who was on whose side for awhile. [ It was a hot mess of confusion between China and Hong Kong and all that was piled on top of an impending war and yeah. Stuff happened. It wasn't good. ] Though I guess he didn't really do it with monks, no.

Is that something that needs to be asked? Cowboys seem strictly American, while ninjas are strictly Japanese. [SO...]

I also had pirates like Shirahama Kenki-san... ...His actions actually lead to closer relations between Vietnam-san and myself. [A glance to Hong Kong DO YOU LIKE HOW HE WAS SHOVING THE CONVO OFF ON YOU EARLIER, AND NOW TRIES TO STEAL IT. Such a loser.]

Did Hong Kong-kun gain anything positive from his pirates?

[ Because Korea is a weirdo with a weird face who insults other people's (totally awesome) facial features and calls them unloved (untrue) and implies they were given away to European powers because of it (who would do that). Yeah. We're not bitter. Not a bit. ]

Why would you need to be a cowboy and a pirate? Aren't they kinda mutually exclusive?

Of course not. Ace wears a cowboy hat. A lot of pirates in my world are a bit cowboy like. [Because Oda was originally going to make One Piece a western. True story. You should see his early designs for Nami.]

What happened with Shirahima Kenki and the Opium Wars?

...Hm.

[He assumes Marco is asking them to each tell a separate story there. So why not go first.]

Shirahama Kenki-san was a pirate who raided Vietnam-san's coastline. Naturally, this was not welcomed, and a son of Lord Nguyen Hoang led a fleet of ten ships to battle the pirates. Ah, I believe Shirahama Kenki-san lost two ships, and fled. They mistook him as a foreigner and left it as that...

But 14 years later, Shirahama Kenki-san's ship crashed at a port there. I believe it was Thuan An... Ah, anyway, a local magistrate attempted to attack him and was killed. Shirahama Kenki-san was imprisoned, recognized as Japanese, and so my newly appointed shogun at the time was contacted.

... Our governments worked together on quite friendly terms from that point. Vietnam-san and I, I mean. As for the Opium Wars, they were much later, and I am sure Hong Kong-kun could tell far too much on them. [glances to him]

Yeah, too much is right. I never heard that story quite like that before. [ Maybe he heard the other side's version. ]
