Yo. I'm back. Longest month of my life, including that time I dyed my hair black.

Did anyone remember to water and feed Ace while I was gone? Take him for walks and make sure he got sun and all that?

[There's a pause and the fluttering of wings along with a mutter.] Damn this new book system is strange... [But he speaks back up again trying to sound more chipper.]

So what did I miss? Did the entire landscape change? Any new books about pirates at the library, eh?

[For those who know him well, Marco actually sounds pretty exhausted for a change, and lacking some of his usual ridiculousness.]

Not anymore. Luckily the Malnosso finally did something right and sent her away a few months ago.

[ although that was lucky in more than one way - it's what brought her and Keiichi closer together too, after all. ]

A few months ago? Sounds like the same time as Blackbeard.

Maybe they had a big autumn cleanup. Or, well, almost winter. Threw out all the worthless rotten people.

Could be. At the time I thought maybe Shanks just somehow dragged Blackbeard back with him. But that might make a lot more sense.

That would be quite the way to go out of this place, huh? Heroically dragging an annoying person out with you.

[Laughs softly.] Of that man, I'd believe it. He's a pirate emperor you know. Just like my Pops was.

Not to mention, Shanks himself is extremely annoying.

And what kind of annoying exactly are we talking about here?

Thinking he knows everything when he knows nothing, talking smack to Pops -- I should still kick him for that. [Although Whitebeard and Shanks worked it out and even Marco said Shanks wouldn't do anything too crazy when they were fighting.] Inviting people to join his crew when he knows they have loyalties elsewhere!

Annoying bastard, flaring his haki around young idiots who don't know how to defend against it... [Trails off into annoyed grumbles.] Then doing really great things like saving people's lives and helping set up memorials and then refusing to even accept a favor to pay it back...

... It sounds like the two of you get along, though.

[ You know, with that last part added and all - even with the earlier annoyed grumbles. ]

No. Well... kind of.

He's a rival, but he had a lot of love for Ace -- my little brother and best friend. Enough to go to war for him, eh? And if it weren't for Shanks we'd all be dead. He was the only one to keep me from trying to kill Akainu and Blackbeard at the end... and here.

He's got... almost as much history with Blackbeard as we do. So an enemy of an enemy is an ally.

He's still really annoying, drinks too much, says annoying things just to be annoying...

Don't worry, I know the last type. When they're just trying to get under your skin on purpose, it's the worst to have to deal with.

[More or less. Better appreciation for him, but he's still irritating.]

Exactly! And you can never tell if it's on purpose. It has to be, but they won't even come out and admit it.

Take it from me that with those kind of people it's usually on purpose, even if they'll never admit it. If you look closely enough it's practically written on their faces.

[ She's just thinking of Amakusa so hard as an example. ]

Che. Probably. Talk about a face that deserves to get kicked.

Don't waste them kicking them. If you don't put people like that in their place, they'll just harass you more and more.

Definitely true, but in his case, I think it just gives him a clue that he's getting to me with it.

... Yeah, you're right. But if you don't do it, he'll continue too, so.. apparently there's just no escape either way. How bothersome.
