Hello New Feathers! My name is Marco. I hope you're all settling in all right! If you're still having problems getting lost in the middle of nowhere, give me a call and I'll be right over to guide you back to town.

For everyone else, I have a friend about my size who's in some desperate need of costumes. I'll take anything you've got. Nurse's uniforms, maid uniforms, marines, chicken costumes, bunny ears, literally anything.

Bonus points if it looks sexy on a guy.

Hey Ace, what do you say to some food?

'M not hungry. [His voice is sharp, and he sits down on the couch, crossing his arms and just glaring at nothing.]

[Soft glance and pours Ace a drink of some orange juice spiked with a bit of rum. Yeah, he knows him too well.]

Want to talk about it? Or we could play cards.

[You know, so you stop kicking everything :|]

[He glances at the juice, but turns away again.]

There's nothing to talk about.

[Read: I don't know how to deal with emotions.]

Well, if you'd like to kick things for fun, may I recommend the Battledome? You can program it with tigers or your brother's face on a dartboard.

The what-dome? [And you hit a nerve.] It's got nothing to do with my brother, okay!?

I meant me, but sure, you're great at this whole hiding things at your age, eh. [Deadpan. See Ace, that is how you do it.]

Battledome. It's a place for practicing fighting or training.

--can you take me there? [But since he's been kind of an ass to you, he doesn't expect it.]

Yes, I can. Bring whatever weapons you want, or I can just try to err... "program" something into it. [Let this be forewarning Ace, Marco does not understand the Battledome as much he's acting. He'll probably stick you with a pogo-stick hammer accidentally.]

He doesn't get it.

[Not gonna lie, he is surprised at that.] You're... really gonna help me?

[He has to hide a grin. Why hell Mr. Pot. Yes, that kettle sure is black.] Maybe there's a better way to explain it.

Of course I am. [Tousles Ace's hair.] I might be a bit of a pain, but we are nakama.

[He crinkles his face, but looks up at him a bit confused.] But... I've been an ass. You're not mad or anything at me?

Sometimes it's not a matter how "well," just different means, eh. Imagine everything's a maze, but instead of one exit, there's fifty. Maybe a different route will take you someplace better.

[Laughs softly and ruffles more.] Are you saying I haven't been an ass right back?

... so you're saying I should've done something different?

[Pouts and swats the hand away.] Stop it! Well, you're being an ass now!

[More grumbly pouts.] I kept denying you were nakama, though. And yelled at you and everything.

I'm saying, there might be another way that produces the results you want, that you haven't looked at yet. Not that your way is bad, just that you aren't getting what you want with it, right?

[Snickers and ruffles one last time.] Ace I've got news for you. You've done all that to me before, so this hardly that new to me. [Although he was hurt that Ace kept disowning him, it's not like he thinks adult!Ace would. Ten year old Ace just doesn't know all the things Marco's done to fight for the right to be by Ace's side, so it's understandable, if frustrating.]

[Well, he sure as hell didn't want to fight with Sabo like that.] What else am I supposed to do, though?

[He gives him an annoyed glare one last time before staring at the ground.] ...'m sorry. You're... [A lot of things.] You're good nakama.

[Marco's eyes widen in pure shock.]

[And he can't help himself, he picks Ace up into a giant crushing hug and hugs hard. Luckily it's not really Garp-hug tight, but he's still going to get punched silly for this he's sure. He doesn't mind enough to worry about it though.]

I am a lousy nakama sometimes Ace. [He let Ace go fight an enemy and couldn't even give him support for it. He teases him constantly even when he knows it's pretty outmatched. And for what? So he can say he trusts Ace to make his own decisions, mistakes or not? Was it worth it? Yeah, so not letting go of that hug yet.] But that makes me really glad to hear. [OBVIOUSLY.]

And give it a little space for now, eh? [Gently sets Ace back down with a hair ruffle. Marco told himself he'd stop that, but it's okay, Marco knows he's a liar.]

Sometimes when you're too close to something it's impossible to get a big picture. Right now you're worried he doesn't understand what you're trying to say, right? Maybe he feels the same way.

There's nothing wrong with just enjoying moments whenever you can. Life can seem like a war; one big struggle. But it doesn't have to always be that way. So for now, try doing something else, focusing your attention elsewhere, and come back to it. If the problem is really as big as you think, it'll still be there, but you might be stronger when you come back to it so that it'll be simpler.

[The hug catches him completely off-guard, and it takes a bit before he even reacts. Which is surprisingly not with a punch, more like flailing. After all, the hug feels... nice, kinda.] O-Oi, what the hell are you doing!? Leggo!

[And at that, he just lightly punches the top of his head.] You're not a lousy nakama, so shut up.

[When he's set back down, he just kinda looks at him.] I... think I get it...

[Squishes another hug, not giving a damn about the punch. Cutie ;;]

It's a hug. Deal with it.

And I'm more terrible than you know, but come on, battledome, eh. And you can figure out how to talk to Sabo there.

[He laughs.]
